Mr. Buchholtz is an attorney in the Albuquerque office. His practice focuses on government finance law, economic development and state tax incentive law, financial institutions law, government relations, securities law and corporate matters. Additionally, he represents issuers and underwriters in connection with the issuance of government securities.
Mr. Buchholtz has served as lead bond counsel to the City of Albuquerque, the New Mexico Finance Authority and the University of New Mexico and continues to serve in that capacity for the New Mexico State Board of Finance. He counsels private businesses and governments in a variety of matters pertaining to growth, corporate governance affairs and government relations. His private sector clients have included The Intel Corporation and Hewlett Packard in connection with New Mexico Capital Development matters. Mr. Buchholtz’ prestigious career includes serving as consultant for the New Mexico State Economic Development Department under Secretaries Barela, Homans, John Garcia, Bratcher, Dendahl and William Garcia. He has advised numerous clients on public finance and economic development matters.
Mr. Buchholtz has served as the state chairman of the New Mexico Association of Commerce and Industry (where he was elected a lifetime board member), New Mexico First, Enchantment Land Certified Development Company and the New Mexico Hospital Equipment Loan Council. He is a founding director of Think New Mexico. Mr. Buchholtz currently serves on the boards of Think New Mexico, the New Mexico Chapter of the National Association of Office and Industrial Properties and the Jewish Community Center of Albuquerque, where he is President. He is a former State Chairman of the New Mexico Anti-Defamation League and a member of the National Commission of the Anti- Defamation League. Mr. Buchholtz’ distinctions include: Albuquerque Municipal Law Lawyer of the Year, Best Lawyers, 2018; Albuquerque Banking and Finance Law and Municipal Finance Law Lawyer of the Year, Best Lawyers, 2014; Albuquerque Mergers & Acquisitions Lawyer of the Year, Best Lawyers, 2013; Albuquerque Public Finance Lawyer of the Year, Best Lawyers, 2012; listed in Best Lawyers in America since 1995; listed in Chambers USA America’s Leading Business Lawyers since 2005; Southwest Super Lawyers; New Mexico Power Broker, New Mexico Business Weekly, 2011. Mr. Buchholtz was appointed by Governor Susana Martinez to the New Mexico Spaceport Authority in 2011.
In July 2017 Mayor Javier Gonzales of Santa Fe, appointed Mr. Buchholtz to chair the Santa Fe Public Banking Task Force.
In November 2016, Mr. Buchholtz was named Business Lawyer of the Year by the Business Law Section of the State Bar of New Mexico.
In December 2016, Mr. Buchholtz was named Outstanding Attorney of the Year by the Albuquerque Bar Association.

Served as disclosure counsel for the State of New Mexico in 2011and 2012 and as bond and disclosure counsel in 2013 with regard to the sale and issuance of $142,150,000, $57,990,000, and $294,780,000, respectively, of general obligation and severance tax bonds.
Served as bond counsel for the City of Albuquerque in 2011 and 2013 with regard to the sale and issuance of $135,000,000 and $117,050,000 respectively, of general obligation and gross receipts tax bonds.
Served as disclosure counsel in 2012 in connection with the University of New Mexico Regents sale of $35,215,000 in revenue bonds.
Served as bond counsel for Boulders Public Improvement District in 2013, with regard to the sale of $1,865,000 in bonds.
